Our long-tenured client, a well-established distribution company that is growing its product lines, is searching for a Buyer and Compliance Specialist to handle purchasing for imported products and make sure those products meet quality and compliance requirements. This is an onsite role in Essex County, NJ, Monday through Friday, 8-4 or 9-5.

Reporting to the Director of Purchasing, this is a hybrid role: you'll buy and manage inventory for imported products, and you'll also own the quality control and compliance paperwork that comes with them. If you're strong in purchasing, you'll learn the compliance side on the job. You'll work with suppliers here and overseas, outside testing labs, and teams across the company.

In this role YOU will:

• Buy imported products, place and follow up on orders with domestic and overseas suppliers, and help manage inventory levels.

• Work in the company's custom enterprise resource planning system and in retailer vendor portals.

• Collect test reports, certificates of conformity, certificates of analysis and supplier declarations from suppliers, and keep product compliance files current.

• Review inspection reports, test results, packaging and labels against approved specifications, regulations and retailer requirements.

• Coordinate third-party product testing and inspections so new products have the right testing and documentation before launch.

• Follow through with suppliers on quality issues, customer complaints and corrective actions.

YOU might be the right person if YOU have:

• Experience in purchasing, buying or procurement, ideally with imported products and overseas suppliers.

• An interest in quality control and product compliance. Experience with product testing, inspections or compliance documentation is a plus.

• An associate's or bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, quality, engineering or a related field.

• Strong attention to detail, organized follow-up across many orders and suppliers, and clear communication.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word and Outlook) and comfort learning new systems, including retailer vendor portals and enterprise resource planning systems.

• Experience with consumer products, clothing, plush toys, latex products, pet products or food, a plus.

• Familiarity with Consumer Product Safety Commission rules, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, ASTM standards, button and coin battery safety rules (Reese's Law), labeling requirements or retailer compliance programs, a plus.

Our client offers a base salary of $70,000-$80,000, bonus eligibility, and excellent benefits.
